Authorities nab suspect wanted for robberies

FBI agents and Lower Merion Township police on Tuesday arrested a man wanted in connection with two bank robberies in the Northeast last month.

Brandon Shields, 29, provided police with a home address on the 1100 block of Eyre St. in Fishtown, but court documents list him as a resident of Bensalem, Bucks County.

He was wanted in Philadelphia for robbing the Citizens Bank at 6537 Castor Ave. on Dec. 6 and the PNC Bank at 6855 Frankford Ave. on Dec. 7. In each case, he allegedly presented a demand note to a teller, then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Philadelphia police, who announced the arrest on Wednesday, did not disclose the circumstances of Shields’ capture in the suburban Montgomery County township.

On Wednesday, Shields remained in jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, of which he would have to post 10 percent to earn his release. He is charged locally with multiple counts of robbery, theft, reckless endangerment, assault and related offenses. No federal charges have been announced.

Shields previously was convicted of committing a May 3, 2006, robbery in Philadelphia and was sentenced to 18 to 36 months in state prison.

He also was convicted of theft in connection with an April 15, 2002, stolen auto case in Philadelphia and sentenced to six to 23 months in prison, followed by one year probation. ••
